This is dependent on any previous CPS involvement and the victim's cooperation with CPS. Additionally, it would be contingent on whether or not the victim is putting the child in any danger (drugs, alcohol, etc.).

La repuesta depende, si no ha habido ningún problema anterior con el departamento de la familia (CPS). Adicional se tomaría en cuenta si la madre pone el o los niños en peligro, bien sea usando (drogas, alcohol o otras circunstancias.)

Again, this is dependent on any CPS involvement. If the mother tests positive for drugs and/or alcohol at the time the child is born, CPS may remove the infant. If there is no CPS involvement, then the baby would not be removed.

I don't have a job and rely on my abuser financially. How can I maintain myself and my child/children financially when I leave my abuser?
No tengo trabajo, y dependo económicamente del que me abusa, ¿Cómo me puedo mantener y mantener a mi hijo o hijos cuando deje al que me abusa?

You can apply for public benefits such as food stamps, TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families or welfare), Medicaid for your children. Additionally, there are local healthcare programs that low income adults can qualify for (JPS Connection Program). You would also be encouraged to connect with the Texas Workforce Commission to enlist in their services and find employment. Also, depending on if you had reported your abuser to law enforcement and you are cooperating with thepolice, you may be eligible for Crime Victims Compensation, which can assist with rental and/or relocation expenses.

Tú puedes aplicar por los beneficios públicos de estampillas de comida (asistencia económica para personas necesitadas) además ayuda médica para los niños. Adicional también hay programas de salud para personas de bajos ingresos que cualifican (JPS Connection Program). If I seek shelter at a family or friend's home instead of a shelter, will my protective order be denied?

Not necessarily. The courts look at the abusive partner's behavior, and if the judge feels that there is a chance of the abusive behavior to continue, then more than likely a P.O. would be granted. It doesn't matter where you are living.

Yes, there are educational programs to help with high school diplomas, GEDs, and college degrees. Case Managers provide referrals to these types of services.

Do I need to live in a shelter to become a client?
¿Necesito vivir en un refugio para ser un cliente?

No, you can receive services in our non-residential outreach programs. We have two counseling/outreach offices - one in Arlington and one in Fort Worth. We offer individual counseling, support groups, legal assistance, and children's counseling and support groups. Before you can take advantage of our services, you must call for an appointment to become enrolled in our services. Our services are offered in both English and Spanish.

No, tú puedes recibir los servicios y no tienes que ser residente del refugio. Tenemos dos oficinas de orientaciones, una en Arlington y la otra en Fort Worth. Absolutely. Even though your child was not abused directly, he or she most likely heard or saw the abuse occur. Children pick up on the smallest things and oftentimes reenact abusive behaviors they have seen or heard.

If I leave my abuser and seek safety, am I giving up all my rights to the home and the property in the home by leaving the home?
¿Si yo dejo al que me abusa por mi seguridad, estoy perdiendo todos mis derechos de la casa y las cosas dentro de la propiedad si abandono la casa?

If the house belongs to the victim (and is in his/her name) and the abusive partner is still remaining in the house, there is a kick-out order that the victim can file for in conjunction with the protective order.

SafeHaven can provide our clients with someone to accompany them to court. We must be given ample notice for this service.

Again, this is dependent on CPS involvement and your cooperation with them. We have seen CPS remove children because the victim chose to return to their abusive partner. CPS is there to protect children, so if you are putting them in harm's way, CPS is more apt to remove them.

La respuesta de nuevo depende en el departamento de la familia (CPS) y su cooperación. Se han visto casos que el departamento de la familia a removido los niños porque la victima a decido regresar con él o la pareja que lo abusa. I have no pictures or proof of any physical abuse to report. Are there different kinds of abuse?

Yes, there are many different kinds of abuse. Abuse can be physical, mental, emotional, verbal, financial, sexual, etc. Abuse is all about asserting power and control over their victim and this can be done in many, many ways. Texas Council on Family Violence has some great handouts on the Power and Control Wheel. The pamphlets can be accessed via their website (www.tcfv.org), and they are in both Spanish and English. There are other pamphlets available on their website that are extremely beneficial for victims of family violence.

Sí, hay diferentes tipos de abuso. El abuso puede ser físico, mental, emocional, verbal, financiero, sexual, etc. Abuso es todo referente a tener poder y control sobre sus víctimas y esto puede ser de muchas, muchas manera.
