Arlington Student Named Finalist in Service Contest  

Samantha Stumbo, a 7th grader at Young Junior High School in Arlington, has been chosen as a finalist in the Apple Orthodontix Livewires Contest. Over the last two years, she has helped her mother raise money and build a foundation for children that are displaced due to economic upheaval, natural disaster and personal adversity. She was at the Salvation Army after Hurricane Katrina to help her mother teach art to the children displaced by the disaster. She has volunteered over 100 hours in community service, including flood rescue and donating pieces of her artwork to be sold for art supplies for children in shelters.

Winners in the Apple Orthodontix Livewires Contest are outstanding teens between the ages of 12 and 18 that are making a difference in the lives of their families, schools, churches, communities and beyond through their acts of service. Livewires are exceptional kids that apply their original thinking and inspired actions to causes greater than themselves. 40 Livewires will be chosen. The contest is sponsored by the Dallas Mavericks.

Each Livewire wins a trip to center court at a Dallas Mavs home game to be honored for his/her achievements by the players, coaches and fans. They receive 2 tickets to the game, meet Dirk Nowitzki, suit up in an official Livewires t-shirt, shoot some hoops and get a souvenir photo. All 40 winners are also eligible for the Grand Prize, a Mavs Night to Remember, which includes 4 game tickets, great Mavs gear, a private meet and greet with All Star forward, Josh Howard, and much more.
